A new information campaign has been launched by the DCU branch to draw attention to ongoing issues with the promotions process.
The promotions process has been a standing agenda item between IFUT and DCU People (HR) since at least 2021. IFUT have been calling for a review of the promotions process, particularly for associate professor grade, for years.
Most recently, the matter was referred to the WRC Conciliation Service in October 2025. In November, DCU People rejected the invitation.
At a general IFUT DCU meeting in December, members reacted strongly to what they saw as a lack of respect on the part of DCU People(HR). There was confusion as to why the university would not engage in the conciliation process, which is informal and non-legalistic.
Since the beginning of 2026, branch committee has intensified their work on this issue, designing information leaflets with a timeline of events and a poster campaign comparing DCU’s practices to other institutions.
This campaign builds up to the DCU IFUT AGM on 12th March, at which the promotions process will take centre stage as a key issue. Feedback from members on the campaign, which launched across all three campuses at the end of February, has already been positive and branch committee is looking forward to an engaged AGM in March.
