IFUT has marked an important new chapter in its history with its first Executive Committee meeting at its new premises in the ICTU Head Office on Parnell Square. The move represents a significant transition for the union, which was previously based on Merrion Square.
Members of the Executive Committee gathered in the new surroundings to conduct their first formal meeting at the Parnell Square office, setting the agenda for the union’s work in the months ahead. The relocation places IFUT at the heart of Ireland’s trade union movement, within the headquarters of the Irish Congress of Trade Unions, strengthening collaboration and solidarity across affiliated unions.
Following the meeting, IFUT hosted a drinks reception to celebrate the official opening of the new office. The event provided an opportunity for colleagues, affiliates and invited guests to mark the occasion, reflect on the union’s continued advocacy for its members, and look forward to the opportunities presented by its new base.
Frank Jones, General Secretary, who addressed the event, acknowledged the legacy of IFUT’s former home on Merrion Square while highlighting the benefits of the move to Parnell Square — including closer engagement with the wider trade union family and enhanced facilities to support the union’s growing work.
The evening concluded on a positive note, with attendees welcoming the new setting as a fitting home for IFUT’s next phase of activity and reaffirming the union’s commitment to representing and advancing the interests of its members across the Higher Education Sector.
