UCU representative, Michael Pierse, addresses IFUT AGM

UCU

Dr Michael Pierse, a UCU representative at Queen's University Belfast was the fraternal guest of the UCC branch of IFUT who held their AGM recently.

Michael was in UCC on the day of the IFUT AGM and, on the invitation of Branch member Dr Heather Laird, very kindly agreed to address the gathering.  He spoke of the UCU’s long-running dispute over pension cuts and working conditions.  Michael also talked about the importance of inter-Union solidarity and support.

Standing in for the Branch Chair, Dr Edward Lahiff, who was unable to attend, Dr Angela Flynn, former IFUT President, thanked Michael for his fraternal greetings and his very informative address, and reminded the AGM of the Emergency Motion passed at the recent IFUT ADC in which IFUT expressly supported the UCU in their dispute.  The motion was passed unanimously.
