Major international Conference on Education confirmed for Dublin

February, 28, 2013

Dublin has been selected as the venue for the 2nd World Women’s Conference of Education International, which will take place at the Burlington Hotel, Dublin, on 7-9 April, 2014.

Over 400 participants from 100 countries are expected to attend the Conference, which will discuss the theme ‘On the Move to Equality’

Dublin beat off shortlisted competition from Lisbon and Marrakech to host the event, for a variety of reasons including cost, language and accessibility.

Welcoming the announcement, Mike Jennings, General Secretary of the Irish Federation of University Teachers (IFUT) said that the conference will act as a major promoter of Ireland internationally, as well as dealing with key issues of access and equality in education.

"I am absolutely delighted that Education International has decided to bring this hugely important event to Dublin," he said.

• Education International is the world’s largest federation of teaching unions, representing 30 million education employees in 400 organisations in 170 countries and territories across the globe.  It promotes the principle that quality education, funded publicly, should be available to every student in every country and advocates for equity in society.
