The Irish Federation of University Teachers (IFUT) will host an upcoming webinar examining probation in higher education, with a particular focus on the legal and procedural frameworks governing probation processes in the sector.
The session will explore recent developments under Terms of Employment legislation, alongside institutional procedures and collective agreements that shape how probation is managed in practice. It will provide practical guidance for staff working in academic, research, and academic-related grades, while also examining probation from a managerial perspective.
The webinar will address issues including:
- fair procedures and natural justice,
- feedback and review processes,
- extensions of probation,
- procedural consistency and transparency,
- and the role of union representation and support.
The session is intended to support a clearer understanding of rights, responsibilities, and best practices in probation processes across higher education institutions.
