IFUT members came together today (21st February 2018) in University College Cork to meet with the General Secretary and President of IFUT.
Members from across the campus were invited to attend this lunchtime meeting where they were addressed by the President of IFUT, Dr. Aidan Seery, Trinity College Dublin and Joan Donegan General Secretary of IFUT. The meeting, organised by the UCC IFUT Branch, informed the meeting of the aims and the successes of IFUT and the challenges facing academics into the future. The core message delivered to those in attendance was that without becoming organised that the precarious nature of employment that prevails in academia will continue.
The meeting was advised that in addition to taking cases, IFUT is also available to support and advise members of their rights and to discuss in confidence the choices open to them. There was much positive engagement at the meeting with some present getting an understanding at what can be achieved by working together.
The meeting also encouraged members to attend the next IFUT Annual Delegate Conference, which takes place at 11:00 am Saturday 12th May at the Gresham Hotel Dublin.
