Appointment of New European Director

 

Education International is pleased to announce the appointment of Susan Flocken as the new European Director of ETUCE, the European Region of EI. She will take up her duties from 1stJanuary, 2017, after the current Director, Martin Romer retires. 

 

Susan has worked for ETUCE for a number of years. Under the arrangements prescribed in the ETUCE By-Laws she was selected by the ETUCE Committee and recommended for appointment to the EI General Secretary. She has worked for ETUCE since 2009, most recently as Internal Policy Coordinator. 

 

She is of German/British nationality although she has lived in Belgium since 2008. She was educated mainly in Germany. She has also studied in Poland, Spain and France. 

 

Susan has been involved in developing and advocating ETUCE policies across a range of areas over the past few years, but, especially, in the areas of health and safety and equality. She has worked with members of the ETUCE Committee and Bureau and with representatives of member organisations in developing policies and has represented ETUCE in various policy forums. She has also engaged in ETUCE policy advocacy work with government representatives and with the European Commission. 

 

Susan states that she ‘is looking forward to making an even greater contribution to advancing the ETUCE’s European agenda and to further serving member organisations’.
