Frank Jones becomes new IFUT General Secretary
IFUT is delighted to announce the appointment of Frank Jones as General Secretary of IFUT.
He will begin work in his new role on the 1st of September following the retirement of our outgoing General Secretary, Joan Donegan.
Frank has served as Deputy General Secretary of our union for the past four years and during this time has built up a wealth of expertise in dealing with key areas of industrial relations concerns for IFUT.  He has worked on a wide range of campaigns with all branches of IFUT around the country, including terms and conditions for academic staff, precarious employment and rights of researchers and library staff.
He was also highly active in recruitment of new members helping to increase IFUT membership to the current record levels.
Frank has been an active trade unionist for more than 20 years with a very wide experience and expertise in individual and collective bargaining.  During his time in IFUT he has developed close working relations with other teacher unions and with ICTU.  He is also an active member of the Kildare Trades Council.
 
Miriam Hamilton joins IFUT as Deputy General Secretary
Miriam Hamilton has been appointed as the new Deputy General Secretary of IFUT, joining us from SIPTU, where she has worked since 2006 serving most recently as a senior official in their Health Division.
Miriam has a very broad range of relevant experience, expertise and qualifications. 
In SIPTU she developed and led strategic industrial and organising campaigns, negotiating collectively and individually, as well as pursuing cases through the WRC and Labour Court. This included public sector work, the wider HSE and Departments of Health and Public Expenditure & Reform.
She holds an Honours BA Degree from DCU and a wide range of qualifications related to industrial relations.  These include a Diploma in Employment Law from Dublin Business School, Certificate in Trade Union Studies in Business Studies from National College of Ireland and a Certificate in Employment Law and the Practice of Industrial Relations from SIPTU college.
