Spring to Action for Academic Freedom: Meet the SAR Protection Team

Scholars At Risk

(from Scholars at Risk)

Dear Friend,

Thanks to all of you who have already contributed to our ‘Spring to Action’ campaign. And if you haven't yet, there's still time to make a difference for at-risk scholars and their families.

You can play a vital role in our team effort. Please 'spring to action' and become a SAR member today!

As members of SAR's Protection Team, we work with scholars who are facing threats because of their academic work, who they are, or the views they express. We help to identify positions of refuge for them at higher education institutions around the world.

Our team is on pace to receive a historic number of applications this year -- more than 700 at-risk scholars are expected to reach out to SAR for assistance. Many are fleeing conflict in Syria and Iraq, while others are facing a massive crackdown in Turkey, and still more are escaping targeted pressures in Russia, Venezuela, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, and beyond.

Despite this influx, we remain passionate about every SAR scholar, working diligently to provide each with a range of services, such as guidance, referrals, networking, and workshops. And when a scholar receives an offer letter for a position in the SAR network, while it's thrilling for us, it's life-changing for the scholar:

"I just got the appointment letter from the university, great news. I really believe that this would not be possible without SAR's support. I thank you so much. It helps me and my family, and gives us hope, inspiration, and energy."

- A scholar's message to SAR upon receiving an offer to continue his research at a university in Boston for the 2017-2018 academic year

With your membership contribution of any size, you can support him and the growing number of scholars that need SAR's help. Join SAR's 'Spring to Action for Academic Freedom' campaign and donate today.

Thank you!

Sincerely from the SAR Protection Team,
