Irish Federation of University Teachers

IFUT ratified Dr Hugh Gibbons as its Incoming President at a meeting of the Executive this morning, Friday, 5 September.

He will serve alongside Dr Joe Brady, current IFUT President, until Joe’s term of office expires next year.

Dr Gibbons is currently a Vice-President of IFUT and Chair of the IFUT branch in Trinity College Dublin. He is Secretary to the ICTU Group of Unions in Trinity College as well as an IFUT representative to the Dublin Council of Trade Unions.

He is a Lecturer in the School of Computer Science and Statistics and in that School he is a member of the Formal Methods Research Group.

Originally from Keadue in County Roscommon, he now lives in Dublin with his wife and two children. He is a son of the late Dr Hugh Gibbons, a medical doctor who also served as a TD for Roscommon.
