Great News for Women in Science
IFUT has welcomed a ground-breaking decision by Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) to fund the cost of replacing a SFI-funded team member who was on paid maternity leave. The move will benefit many women who are employed as researchers in universities and whose projects are financed by SFI.
The move follows closely on a policy adopted by IFUT at its Annual Delegate Conference last April “to seek that funding be made available to provide replacement personnel or contract extensions for Contract Researchers on maternity or adoptive or paternity leave”. Mike Jennings, General Secretary of IFUT, said it was gratifying that IFUT’s brief campaign had already yielded positive results.
