IFUT held an important seminar on Saturday, 31 October 2009 in the Gresham Hotel, O'Connell Street, Dublin 1.

The title of the seminar was:

The seminar heard keynote contributions from two of the foremost world authorities on the topic of the threat posed to universities and academic freedom by marketisation, commercialisation and privatisation:
    David Robinson: Associate Executive Director of the Canadian Association of University Teachers (CAUT) and a Consultant on International Trade on Higher Education Issues; David Robinson, Associate Executive Director, Canadian Association of University Teachers (CAUT)
    and
  • Jens Vraa-Jensen: Chairman of the Higher Education and Research Standing Committee (HERSC) of Education International in Europe and a Consultant to the President of DM, the Higher Education Union in Denmark.
