ASSISTANT/DEPUTY GENERAL SECRETARY

The Irish Federation of University Teachers (IFUT), the main representative body for academic staff in Ireland, wishes to appoint an Assistant or Deputy General Secretary and invites applications from suitably qualified candidates.  This is a full-time, permanent post.

IFUT represents academics, researchers, senior administrators and professional librarians in universities, colleges and research institutes in Ireland.  It is affiliated to the ICTU.

The person appointed will work with the General Secretary in representing and negotiating on behalf of members at all levels; national, sectoral and local.  S/he will be concerned not only with terms and conditions of employment but also with issues relating to the position, structure and resourcing of third level education.  S/he must be an effective communicator as well as having excellent strategic, tactical and negotiation skills.  The person appointed must have a solid grounding in the issues affecting third level education in Ireland and internationally, and must be prepared to assist IFUT’s participation in appropriate forums.

An attractive remuneration package, commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered.
